DWARF ARTS AND CRAFTS
Art for its own sake has little place in dwarven life. Utility is considered as equally important as beauty, if not more so. A useful item is still prized even if it is plain, but a beautiful item with no utility is considered a waste of time and resources. At the same time, no proper dwarf craftsman is considered to be worth the gold he charges if his creations are not beautiful as well as functional. Anyone can craft a simple, utilitarian item, but a true master of his craft makes items whose owners will enjoy and treasure them. No dwarven masterwork item exists that is not finely ornamented with engravings, enamels, carvings, or inlaid woods or metals. Even the humblest object bears a simple design and the ornamented runes of its maker’s name.
